Students are each given an apple.  First, students draw the whole apple.  Second, students draw the apple with a bite out of it, and finally, students draw what is left of their apple after eating it!
Each stage is drawn using color pencils. Students learn about form, and emphasis. They also learn about application of materials, and time management. The students are expected to fit each of the three stages on one piece of paper, which is shown in chronological order. Students use prior knowledge of value and color blending to make the apple look realistic.
